Advanced Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a treatment that focuses on the deeper layers of the muscles. It helps with chronic pain by releasing the tension in the muscles and is beneficial for sports injuries as well as promoting healing. The term Deep Tissue was only formulated in the middle of the 20th century, so compared to many other holistic treatments it is very new.

Unlike other massage techniques that may focus on increasing blood flow or solely for relaxation, Deep Tissue Massage helps to treat muscle pain, improve range of movement, eases stiffness and lessens inflammation.

The aim of this treatment is to break up muscle tension, sometimes referred to as knots, that often lie in deeper musculature. This will mean however that the therapist will likely be applying a good deal of pressure.

The massage therapist will warm up your muscles using a lighter touch to start. Your deep tissue sessions will be gentle to begin with, it can cover a broad area in the beginning, then starting to focus in on the specific muscles or regions.

Everyone has different pain tolerance levels, it’s possible that deep tissue massage may cause discomfort or even be a little painful. Due to this, you want to make sure you talk to your massage therapist about the pressure being applied. If your massage gets painful, let your therapist know.
